Budapest is getting ready for one of the most exciting weekends of the summer. The Formula 1 Hungarian Grand Prix 2026 will bring racing fans from around the world to the city for three days of speed, excitement and unforgettable atmosphere.
Whether you are visiting Budapest just for the race or staying for a few extra days, here is what you need to know.
The Formula 1 weekend takes place at the Hungaroring from 24 to 26 July 2026. Practice sessions begin on Friday, qualifying is held on Saturday, and the main race starts at 3:00 PM on Sunday, 26 July. Drivers will complete 70 laps of the famous 4.381-kilometre circuit.
Located just outside Budapest, the Hungaroring is known for its narrow, technical layout and exciting corners. It is often compared to a giant karting track, where rhythm and precision are especially important.
Public transport is one of the easiest ways to reach the circuit during the busy race weekend.
You can take the H8 suburban railway from Örs vezér tere to Kerepes, followed by a dedicated fan shuttle to Gate 3 of the Hungaroring. For the return journey, shuttle buses will connect the circuit with Gödöllő railway station, where trains depart towards Budapest.
A direct City Shuttle will also operate between central Budapest and the Hungaroring from Friday to Sunday. The Budapest departure point is located on Olof Palme Promenade, close to Heroes’ Square.
Allow extra time for your journey, as traffic and public transport can be particularly busy during the Formula 1 weekend.
There is plenty to discover away from the circuit. Walk along the Danube, visit the Parliament, relax in one of Budapest’s thermal baths or experience the famous ruin bars of District VII.
