Day 1: Discover the highlights of Pest
Start your Budapest adventure on the Pest side of the city.
Hungarian Parliament Building
One of Budapest’s most recognisable landmarks, the Hungarian Parliament Building is an essential first stop. Walk along the Danube promenade to admire the impressive neo-Gothic building from outside, or book a guided visit if you would like to see the interior.
Nearby, you can also visit the Shoes on the Danube Bank memorial, one of the city’s most moving historical sites.
St. Stephen’s Basilica
From Parliament, walk towards St. Stephen’s Basilica. The square surrounding the basilica is a great place to stop for coffee, while the panoramic terrace offers one of the best views over central Budapest.
Continue towards Deák Ferenc Square, one of the main hubs of the city centre.
Explore the Jewish Quarter
Spend the afternoon discovering Budapest’s famous District VII, home to the Great Synagogue, colourful street art, cafés, restaurants and the city’s legendary ruin bars.
Walk through Kazinczy Street and the surrounding streets before stopping for dinner. If you still have some energy left, this is also one of the best areas in Budapest for an evening drink.
Drop&GO tip: If you arrive in Budapest before your accommodation is ready, you don’t need to spend your first day dragging your suitcase through the city. Leave your bags securely at Budapest Drop&GO in District VII and start exploring straight away.
